Summer 06 Project Objectives
Plan and implement a comprehensive project program where IC student volunteers
work in tsunami affected villages. This year volunteers are working toward meeting
the need for basic healthy living advice amongst children (aged 7-12) whilst they are
given a cultural experience of living and working at a grass-roots level and also
training and on-the-job teaching on International Development and community
health promotion.
Our objectives include promoting community development through access to
knowledge, information and a range of services, programs and projects for the
benefit of the communities. Also:
Promoting people-centred and people-controlled development
Improving the role, status and leadership of disadvantaged people, particularly
Promote good hygiene
Prevent tobacco use
Promote physical activity
Promote healthy nutrition
Prevent helminth infections
Prevent the spread of insect-borne diseases in areas where they are prevalent
In addition to providing health related knowledge and skills, health education in
schools should enable students to acquire values and attitudes, and undertake
action that will help them adopt healthy lifestyles and create conditions conducive
to health.
